Achilles Tendon Injury

Achilles Taping

Pic_ach_1
  • Position the ankle in the amount of dorsiflexion that causes pain/discomfort
  • Then slightly plantarflex and maintain this position
  • Apply anchors in mid-foot and mid-calf
  • Use 2”or 3” Elastikon as it will provide for some movement

  • Anchor Elastikon strip on the calf and pull down and anchor on the foot
  • Must maintain foot position
  • Repeat procedure 3 times
  • Clinical Tip!
  • Cut the middle of the tape and tear to allow for a greater contact on the surface (prevent slipping)

  • Close with either J&J Zonas or stretch tape

  • Clinical Tip!
  • Apply heel locks and figure 8’s to provide more stability to the ankle joint

  • Clinical Tip!
  • Use a felt heel lift to take additional pressure off the Achilles tendon
  • Replace felt pad often
